New database launched by buildingSMART - Clear comprehensive overview of IFC‐compliant software
A database of software applications that are compatible with the IFC standard goes live on the buildingSMART website on 5 October 2011 and will provide an official reference resource for AEC industry software users. The database contains information about IFCcompatible applications for the whole range of design and construction disciplines, including architectural, structural, building services, facility management and model viewing. It also underlines how broad IFC support has become.

BSI spells out the case for BIM - 'Best BIM guide yet’
The British Standards Institution invited BuildingSMART UK – the organisation that promotes BIM-enabled smart working – to produce a straight to the point guide to building information modelling, Constructing the Business Case. The publication sets out the case for BIM adoption and explains the underlying technologies to stimulate uptake in the construction and FM industries. For busy CEOs, a shorter document is also available. Known as the Investors Report, it distils the business case into two pages – enough to enable senior leaders to understand the principles and direct their staff to the longer publication.

He describes the subject of his presentation as 'the new ground breaking NBS specification system is based on rich digital objects and the relationships and constraints between them. It allows the specification of the building systems and products, their performance and required standards of workmanship. The specification is a non-graphical building information model that may be created at the outline design stage of the building and then developed through construction to create an "as-built" model. The presentation will demonstrate the NBS system working with commercial CAD packages through the COBie and IFC open standards'

UN/CEFACT TBG6 held a joint meeting with TBG1 in Paris at the end of January, hosted by GS1 France with participants from France, India, Italy, Korea, Netherlands, UK and USA.
