BuildingSMART visit to Geneva - 15th February 2011
On 15 February 2011, Christopher Groome, business manager for buildingSMART UK, was among representatives of buildingSMART at a meeting in Geneva with Robert Steele, Secretary-General of ISO, the standards organisation.
The progress of a standard through the ISO committee processes to become a full ISO standard is at present lengthy, and the meeting broached the subject of fast-tracking buildingSMART standards. Equally important, the meeting explored practical options for collaboration.
Other topics included intellectual property rights as buildingSMART’s continues to develop extensions of its standards. ISO itself is undergoing change in its internal structures and buildingSMART is eager to strengthen its links with ISO committees.
ISO has designated a contact point for ongoing liaison while Chris Groome is the contact point on behalf of buildingSMART.
